Platform Checker ("we", "us", "our") operates the website platformchecker.com and the Platform Checker Chrome extension. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. What We Collect
Website (platformchecker.com)
When you use the website to scan a URL, we collect:
- The URL you submit for analysis
- The technologies detected, observation time, scan coverage, rule version, and structural evidence
- Your email address and a password hash if you create an account
Chrome Extension
Extension version 2 sends data only when you click “Scan public URL”:
- Page URL — the selected public page URL, without query strings or fragments
- No page HTML is uploaded by version 2. It does not scan in the background.
Version 2 sends this URL to our API at platformchecker.com for a public scan. Older installed versions may automatically send page URLs and HTML; uninstall those versions to stop that behavior. We do not collect:
- Personally identifiable information (name, address, phone number)
- Form inputs, passwords, or authentication credentials
- Cookies or session tokens
- Browsing history beyond the current page being analyzed
- Location data
2. How We Use Your Data
We use the collected data exclusively to:
- Detect and identify technologies and frameworks on websites
- Display results to you in the extension popup and on the website
- Cache results to improve performance and reduce redundant analysis
- Improve our technology detection accuracy
3. Data Storage and Retention
- Extension version 2: No persistent local storage; the popup keeps its current request in memory.
- Server-side: Scan results (URL, time, coverage, detected technologies, and bounded structural evidence) are stored on our servers. Page HTML is processed for analysis and is not permanently stored.
4. Data Sharing
Signed-in and API-key scans are private by default. Guest and extension scans are public. Owners can explicitly publish a private report. Public marketing pages use Google Analytics with sanitized page locations; report pages and signed-in pages do not load Analytics. Optional AI review, disabled by default in this release, sends bounded saved structural evidence to the configured AI provider. Full HTML is not included in that review snapshot. We do not sell scan data.
5. Your Rights
You can:
- Uninstall the Chrome extension at any time to stop all data collection
- Mark your scans as private on the website so they are not publicly visible
- Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us
6. Security
All communication between the extension and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS. We implement reasonable security measures to protect stored data.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
